Donald Trump <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-44103081\">vowed to help protect 80,000 jobs at China\u2019s ZTE<\/a>, despite US companies having been forbidden from selling to them last month due to the company\u2019s trade with Iran and North Korea. Trump is said to have realised <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the $2.3 billion of goods ZTE buys from US companies <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would be lost is too high a price to pay for political influence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, 200 locally listed Chinese companies were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-05-13\/china-s-msci-debut-is-about-to-put-new-stocks-in-your-pension?utm_medium=social&amp;cmpid=socialflow-twitter-business&amp;utm_content=business&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=socialflow-organic\">allowed on the international stock exchange as A shares<\/a> for the first time, and the Shanghai International Energy Exchange launched the first crude oil contracts in Chinese Yuan, making the petroyuan [as opposed to the petrodollar] one step closer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of the above are clear indications of China\u2019s further growing power in both business and financial markets worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Bike-sharing in China hit breaking point as cities become saturated<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As bike-sharing companies such as Mobike venture into UK cities, despite consistent losses worldwide, China is struggling with a saturation of bikes within cities, made clear by footage of the incredible bike graveyards appearing throughout the country [see this amazing video <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/av\/world-asia-china-43999482\/the-problem-of-china-s-huge-bike-graveyards\">here<\/a>].<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the battle between China\u2019s bike-sharing companies continues to the death, the last remaining major independent player, Ofo, this week <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scmp.com\/tech\/start-ups\/article\/2146142\/china-bike-sharing-firm-ofos-ceo-rebuffs-offer-and-rallies-employees\">compared their situation to that of wartime Britain<\/a> as portrayed in the recent film <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Darkest Hour.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The burst of the bike-sharing bubble in China seems inevitable, although it remains to be seen how long investors will keep funding loss-making bike sharing companies. Mobike is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verdict.co.uk\/bike-sharing-company-mobike-bought-staggering-2-7-billion-chinas-meituan-dianping\/\">estimated to be losing between $25-50 million a month<\/a> according to various sources.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Gap apologises after omitting Tibet and Taiwan from its China map<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An unintentional participant in China\u2019s territorial disputes, US retailer Gap <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-44119125\">was forced to apologise this month<\/a> after one if its t-shirts was printed with a map of China, omitting parts of Tibet, Taiwan and islands in the South China Sea.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gap said it &#8220;sincerely apologised\u2019 for the error in a statement, and claimed all of the t-shirts within mainland China had been removed from sale and destroyed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other companies, including Marriot<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Delta Airlines, have also issued apologies this year for contradicting China\u2019s territorial claims.
